Diabetes Camps Victoria Fundraiser

My name is Natalie Logan, I am the Diabetes Camps Victoria Program Coordinator.

I personally, have been involved in the camps program since 2016, when I first joined as a volunteer. I do not live with type 1 diabetes myself, and attending this camp genuinely changed my life. I was blown away by the resilience, maturity and support that campers showed one another and touched by the immediate connections they made with others who were going through the same thing. I was equally moved by my fellow volunteers; many of which were campers themselves who had formed lifelong friendships with those they met on camp, and now stood side-by-side ready to give back.

Attending these camps, I have witnessed first-hand the amazing things that campers achieve. From engaging in activities outside of their comfort zone, to doing their own insulin injections for the first time, these camps truly alter the lives of those that attend. Camps also support these children through the development of a peer support network, increasing confidence, knowledge and skills for self-management of type 1 diabetes, fostering a sense of normality, positive role modelling from our volunteers and health professionals who also live with type 1 diabetes and respite for parents in daily and overnight care of their children

These camps are a life-changing experience for children living with type 1 and we want to deliver them to as many young people as possible.
